Jungle Gym (Among the Violets)
SELF-DIRECTED PROJECT
The initial concept for Jungle Gym came out of a creativity challenge I participated in during May 2021. Using a series of word prompts, the goal was to create 31 small works—one for each day of the month. The prompt for May 1st was “Far” … and thus began a 14(+) month journey I didn’t realize I was going to take! I developed the concept further during a woodcut class with artist Jun Lee in the summer of 2022. What resulted was a wonderfully graphic approach to the concept.
Two of the artist proofs pulled were hand colored in early 2023 as a further experiment in my relief techniques and processes.
